The autumn concert has a programme which reflects the milestones being met by Queen Elizabeth as longest-reigning monarch in her 90th year (Walton's coronation march Orb and Sceptre written for the 1953 coronation, with organist David Force who is also the soloist for Handel's Organ Concert in F - the Cuckoo and the Nightingale), as well as the 150th anniversary of the birth of Sibelius (Symphony No 2). There is also a personal and local flavour with two movements from The Wilmington Suite written by Charles Lucas, the ESO's president's father, along with the popular minuet from A Downland Suite by Ireland.

Elgar Dream of Gerontius

The last time we performed this was in 1999, the first of our 11 choral concerts in Chichester Cathedral. We are delighted that Eastbourne's Renaissance Singers will form the semi-chorus, and the soloists will be Susan Legg, Andrew Mackenzie-Wicks and Jozik Kotz. As well as the regular Tuesday evening rehearsals for the singers, there will also be three Saturday afternoon workshops run on the same lines as before. We are keen, obviously, to welcome a large number of singers and hope that our flexible rehearsal schedule will allow as many singers as possible to join us while, at the same time, producing a healthy balance between the voices. There will be more information in newsletters and on the website later in the year or, more immediately, from concertmanager@eso.org.uk or 07780 993801.
